Just like with every other system, home security systems may at times develop problems, and leave your home vulnerable, even if they malfunction just for a few minutes or hours. The good news is that most of the common problems are known and there are simple fixes for them. They include but are not limited to the following:
This is one of the most rampant problems regarding home security systems. False alarms are caused by improper installation of the system such that any sound, including the opening of a window and even falling branches, is enough to trigger it. The best way to avoid false alarms is to ensure proper installation from the start, as well as regular maintenance to ensure that every component is functioning properly.
Incorrect programming is another common problem with home security systems. If the panels were installed and programmed properly, but the building’s layout changes for one reason or another, the functioning of the security system is likely to be affected. The best way to correct this problem is to reprogram the panel and adjust it to any changes that might have been done to the building’s layout. Regular inspections are also recommended if you are unable to detect the system that should be reprogrammed.
System not arming or disarming
A green light must always appear when arming the system. If that light is missing, it implies either a door or a window is not shut properly. It can also mean that there is a general fault with the system and it needs to be repaired. If you are unable to detect the reason why the system is not arming, then you should call in for regular inspection and maintenance.
