The yard is a very important aspect of home security, but one, which is usually ignored by most homeowners. Everybody is busy securing their houses with advanced alarm systems, and leaving their yards without any substantial security features, thus making it easy for burglars to access the property, and escape with whatever they find left outside, or sometimes disable the home security system to do a lot of damage.
To enhance the security of your entire home, your yard must also be secure, and here are a few tips to help you:
Install chain-link security fence
The first step towards securing your yard, is to install a security fence, complete with a solid gate. A wooden fence may be appealing and probably relatively affordable, but they can provide burglars with a place to hide, and they can’t also be electrified. A chain-link fence on the other hand will provide higher visibility; burglars can’t hide behind them, and they can be electrified.
Outdoor motion lights
Burglars don’t love lights. In addition to the security lights you already have at your home, also consider installing outdoor motion lights on the perimeter wall. With these lights, burglars will get a warning that they are being watched even before they access the inside of the property.
Home security stickers and signs
Statistics indicate that your home is 300% more likely to be targeted by burglars if you don’t display any security stickers or signs. Putting home security stickers, signs and decals on your windows and doors, is very effective in deterring would-be burglars. The trick is that when they see such signs, they are not certain whether the homeowner is bluffing or if there is indeed a security system in place to catch them. Either way, they will be very hesitant to proceed with their ill motive when they see a video surveillance sticker or any other home security sign is on the perimeter.
