The sound of a home security system can sometimes be very distressing. When it goes off, you know that intrusion is in progress, and you will probably panic and may think about defending yourself in case someone had bad intentions.
But it is even more distressing if you have to go through all of that only to discover that the alarm was false and you are in no apparent danger. Below are some of the things that cause false alarms at home and you should be watchful of them to avoid unnecessary panics and confusions at home.
Human error
The first and major cause of false alarms at home is human error. This happens mainly when someone tries to operate the system yet they are not well versed with it. The popular culprits to this include baby sitters, children and friends and families. The best way to avoid such is to ensure that everyone around the home is well trained on how to operate the alarm system.
Poorly designed systems
If the design of the system or the installer did not consider the home, the occupants and your behavior when you are around the house, the occurrence of false alarms can be increased. For instance, if you have pets at home and you fail to include pet friendly motion detectors, then you are likely to experience lots of false alarms. Again, if the wiring was not done in the correct manner or smoke detectors were placed closer to sources of heat, expect to have lots of false alarms.
Lack of maintenance
Dead batteries or dust in the smoke detectors are very good candidates for false alarms within your home alarm system. For efficient operations, ensure that the system is serviced regularly and batteries changed in good time so that it can remain reliable at all times.
