Residential Alarm Systems: Top Tips for Preventing Package Theft

Even with powerful and high tech residential alarm systems, it is sad to see how many people still lose packages after they were delivered. There are a plethora of ways families can use to avoid losing deliveries every now and then.  Here are the top methods to help you keep all those lost packages!

Install a Doorbell Camera

With a doorbell camera, you will have a live stream of who is at your door.  If it is a delivery, you can unlock the door remotely for them to place the package inside, then lock the door once they leave. Suppose it was a thief knocking on your door, with the live video stream, you can talk to them. This is usually sufficient enough to scare them away, because they will know you are watching. Getting noticed or being watched is a burglar’s worst nightmare and they will abort all their plans should they think that they have been made.

Use a Mailbox Alarm

Small packages can just be dropped into your mailbox instead of being left on your porch. To make this more efficient and secure, consider installing a mailbox alarm from the residential alarm system vendors so that you can get notifications every time the box is opened and closed. Suppose you are not at home when the delivery is made, call a neighbor or a friend to hold the package until you come back.

Put up Security Signs

Statistics show that homes with security signs or warnings are the least targeted by burglars and package thieves simply because they think they are being watched. It is recommended you have these signs around your home, even if you don’t have an advanced home security system. They will do a good enough job of deterring the bad guys from targeting your home.
